The 2013 boys were 2-0 in pool play with solid victories against the Columbus Capitals and Shaker Heights Raiders. However, they faced a setback against the Frederick Freeze (Frederick, MD), losing 2-5. Fortunately, they had the opportunity to avenge their loss on Monday afternoon in the Championship game, and it was a thriller! Regulation play concluded with a 6-6 tie, leading to OT. The OT format was a 5-minute, runtime 3v3, but Caesars began with a disadvantage—one player was in the penalty box at the end of regulation, resulting in a 4v3 scenario for the first 40 seconds. The team demonstrated incredible heart and hustle, just as they had through regulation, executing stellar defense to kill off the penalty and the remainder of OT.
With the score still tied at the end of OT, the game proceeded to a 3-man shootout. Garrett Gunn was the 1st shooter for Caesars and skillfully found the back of the net through the 5-hole. The Freeze followed, hitting the post with their attempt. With the shootout score at 1-0 in favor of Caesars, Ben Brodbeck took the 2nd shot and sniped the top left corner. The Freeze then sent in their second shooter, who successfully scored, making the shootout score Caesars - 2, Freeze - 1. Now, all eyes were on Caesars’ 3rd and final shooter, Adam Sublin. Sublin stepped up and scored glove-side for Caesars to complete a perfect 3 for 3 in the shootout! With that last shot, the crowd erupted, the Caesars bench cleared and the ice looked like a yard sale of orange and black equipment! WAY TO GO, CAESARS!!
